Torii No Tera

There's a version of you that stood at a gate once.

Maybe it was the day you left your city for the first time and didn't cry at the airport because you were too busy being brave. Maybe it was 2 AM in a hostel in a country you'd saved three years for, standing at a temple entrance with no one to tell. Maybe it was the moment you realised you'd crossed a threshold — and there was no turning back, not because the path closed behind you, but because the person who would have walked back simply no longer existed.

The torii gate was never about Japan. Not to us. It was about every boundary between what you were and what you're becoming. Above the waterline: structure, colour, the visible world, the you that woke up and got dressed and showed up. Below it: the reflection. Darker. Quieter. The version that only water and silence reveal.

The Japanese kanji in the corner — 高·大·少 — reads: tall, great, few. A few people ever stand at their gate long enough to feel what it means.
